"France shd. be commemorated in Elias Lowe's story of the Parisian biologist who had written on crocodiles all his life. After the monumental and definitive work on the subject he visited Africa to look at a crocodile. One advanced toward him. He climbed a tree. The crocodile then reared up and proceeded to follow him. 'Mais non! Mais NON!' ejaculated the scientist, 'Les crocodiles ne montent PAS les arbres'."

Guide to Kulchur, "Education or Information"

An amusing tale, in line with the ABC ("LOOK at the FISH," etc.), although Pound himself doesn't see that to perceive sense-objects is to process information. One supposes that his faithful attempts to intuit the atemporal gists of things blinded him to this.

Adieu.
