Byrne-ing Down the Music Industry?

In a fantastic Wired article "Survival Strategies for Emerging Artists -- and Megastars," David Byrne discusses the state of the music industry and speculates about the directions it may take in the future, which includes a number of hybrid DIY approaches to production and distribution. Interesting indeed. Do give it a read in full, but here's a sample: "What is called the music business today, however, is not the business of producing music. At some point it became the business of selling CDs in plastic cases, and that business will soon be over. But that's not bad news for music, and it's certainly not bad news for musicians. Indeed, with all the ways to reach an audience, there have never been more opportunities for artists." Of course, I'm considering the similarities to lit publishing as I type this.

Adieu.
