Level

Just finishing up quite a bit of research on Pound, and I came across this bit in Pavannes & Divigations: "There is sort of a spirit-level in the ear, giving us a sense of balance."

This is interesting to me in a number of ways, especially in terms of Olson's "the soul is proprioceptive." And, of course, in the the sign itself: level. It pivots on that "v" and spells itself backwards.
