The following is from "Philip Guston's Object: A Dialogue with Harold Rosenberg," which prefaces the work represented in this little catalogue (1966). Generally speaking, reproductions of visual art in books are terrible, and this catalogue is no exception. The "dialogue," though, makes this text worth checking out if you're interested in Guston's work at all.

R: The painting has to stop following you around.
G: That's right.
